This Night Wounds Time

Barbed Wire

There was,
Amongst clocks and shrines,
An old stone
Cast like water
And stretching away
Over imitations
Foggy rivers of space
Dying like glass,
Mirrors in the sky.

And then the others arrived,
Smooth wings
Caves and bubbles
Bringing new supplies for the trees;
For the ghosts and the moons
Sand and nightmares.

There was a word,
Unspoken,
Haunting the statues.
It never reached the ocean.
Instead it died, like reflections,
And was buried properly,
Barbed wire and all.

Ten light-years west of Saturn
She asked me about dreams
About glass
About my name
About the imprint.
